BrightPencil Kids Privacy Policy

BrightPencil Kids is designed for children and families. We aim to keep the website and apps simple, safe, and privacy-conscious.
What BrightPencil stores
The current BrightPencil Kids website stores the following information locally in the browser when a family chooses to use these features:
- Parent or grown-up settings such as spoken-guidance and session-reminder preferences.
- A child nickname and chosen avatar for a local device profile.
- A salted one-way hash of the local Parent PIN and, when a child profile is used, a salted one-way hash of the child PIN. The PIN digits themselves are not stored.
- Learning progress, completed activities, saved writing, and related practice information.
The current local website profile does not require or store a parent email address. This locally stored information is used to provide learning personalization on that device.
What BrightPencil does not do
The current BrightPencil Kids child learning experience does not:
- Show advertising in the current child learning experience.
- Use third-party advertising SDKs.
- Use cross-app tracking.
- Use third-party analytics.
- Provide public chat or messaging.
- Provide user-generated public content.
- Provide unrestricted web browsing.
- Request camera, microphone recording, location, contacts, or call-log access for normal app use.
External links
External websites are restricted to approved BrightPencil destinations and are intended for grown-up use. Child-facing areas are not designed to open unrestricted external websites.
Grown-up controls
The current website uses a grown-up handoff followed by a local Parent PIN before opening Parent Zone. This is local device protection and is not presented as legal identity or age verification. Native apps can use their own protected Parent Zone controls.
Local data controls
Grown-ups can clear the local Parent PIN, child profile, progress, saved writing, practice history, and BrightPencil preferences from Parent Zone. Where a connected BrightPencil account service is introduced, server-side account access, recovery, consent records, and account deletion must also be available before that service is released.
Diagnostics
BrightPencil does not automatically collect diagnostic exports. A diagnostic export is initiated by a verified grown-up and is intended only for support and troubleshooting.
Spoken guidance
The website can use the browser or device speech-synthesis feature to read BrightPencil guidance aloud. BrightPencil does not request microphone access for this feature and does not send the spoken text to a BrightPencil account server. The browser or operating-system speech provider may process speech according to its own settings and privacy terms.
Children and privacy
BrightPencil Kids is a child-facing educational product. We design child-facing screens to avoid advertising, tracking, open social communication, and unrestricted external web access.
Changes to this policy
If BrightPencil introduces a new backend, analytics service, advertising feature, social feature, or new category of personal data, this policy and the relevant App Store and Google Play privacy disclosures will be reviewed and updated before release.
